Have you heard of 'green fatigue'? Or maybe you are experiencing it yourself? Below article published in The Independent reports on a recent market research study that reveals less people in the UK spend money on green products or appliances, or on the other hand don't make changes that would save them money then they were five years ago. What happened? Is this really a fatigue?
Where do you start to find information about global warming or climate change? For me, the Internet offers a vast source of information, opinions, and perspectives. A lot of websites however are very polarized, some even politicized.
Earlier this year in May I did some focus groups with students from the Griffith Business School. The majority of the students who participated did some travel related studies, so it was great to hear their opinions and perceptions on climate change and travel issues.
At the end of last week I started sending out email invites for participation in my research, precisely for my ‘Have your say’ online questionnaire. I bought some addresses from the Australian Lifestyle Survey, which is held regularly by the Australian Post.
As previous recruitment and discussions were both sparse, I needed to change my strategy. How can I make my participants focus on travel related climate change issues? I guess I have to ask some concrete questions.
Finally launching my research website was exciting and scary at the same time. Will I get enough participants? What do I do if discussions don’t flow? Well, it wasn’t as easy as some people predicted.
Before you start the real thing, it’s always good to have some people look at your website and test it. I was lucky to find some of those people within the department, mainly other PhD students with whom I engaged in a monthly discussion on qualitative research issues. Well, so far what we had in common.
Thanks for stopping by. I am working on this project already for quite a while and it is great to find some people who think it's worthwhile and contribute to my research. In fact your contributions are vital for the success of my research.
